The possible move comes at a time when gambling deals in English football are still being talked about. The UK Government is said to be planning to ban these kinds of sponsorships. The possible ban would be part of the government's review of the 2005 Gambling Act.
Even though Fulham hasn't officially named its new Premier League sponsor yet, W88 was briefly mentioned as the team's shirt sponsor in the league's rules for the coming season. Soon after, the Asian-facing betting firm's name was taken out of the guide.
W88 has supported Aston Villa, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Crystal Palace in the Premier League in the past. It would take the place of World Mobile, a blockchain-based phone network, as Fulham's main shirt sponsor. World Mobile had already moved on to the club's training gear and shirt sleeves.
The Fulham Supporters' Trust did a poll on the subject last year, and 46% of those who answered said they wouldn't like it if a gambling company was the club's main supporter.
The Fulham Supporters' Trust said, "We know that many fans don't like shirt sponsors who gamble, and a lot of them have told us they don't buy replica shirts and other stuff because of it."
"Since the Premier League is likely to soon agree to a voluntary ban on gambling front of shirt sponsors, it looks like Fulham and other clubs are taking advantage of the last chance to make money from gambling companies that don't operate in the UK."
Everton, another Premier League team, signed a club-record main partner agreement with Stake.com last month. The brand of the cryptocurrency betting operator will be on both the men's and women's playing shirts, as well as on screens and media backdrops at Goodison Park and at the club's training ground.
But in less than a month, more than 20,000 people joined a petition against the sponsorship deal. Fans were angry that the club would be working with a gambling company.

To have fun and be safe while gambling, it is important to gamble properly. Never risk more than you can afford to lose; instead, plan ahead and play within your means. To keep your head on straight and not chase your losses, take frequent breaks. Get a feel for the odds and remember that gambling is more of a pastime than a means to an end. Never gamble when under the influence of alcohol or stress, and be sure to keep track of your spending and time. Seek assistance from support groups or think about self-exclusion measures if gambling becomes harmful or stops being enjoyable.
