It was said that Newcastle United defender Sandro Tonali broke the English Football Association's (FA) betting rules, so the FA has charged him.
An investigation found that the player bet on 50 football games in two months, from August 12 to October 12, 2023.
Tonali was banned from football for 10 months last year for breaking betting rules. During that time, he can't play for either his club Newcastle or his country Italy. He is set to return to action in August.
The FA said in a statement, "Sandro Tonali has been charged with misconduct in relation to alleged breaches of The FA's Betting Rules."
"The Newcastle United midfielder is said to have broken FA Rule E8 50 times by betting on football games from August 12, 2023, to October 12, 2023."
"Sandro Tonali has until April 5, 2024, to answer."
Newcastle, Tonali's club, also said something about the situation in a statement: "Newcastle United acknowledges a misconduct charge received by Sandro Tonali in respect of alleged breaches of FA Betting Rules."
"Sandro continues to fully cooperate with the investigations, and the club continues to fully support him."
"Sandro and Newcastle United can't say anything else right now because this process is still going on."
This week, there were also stories in the US about player betting, such as the current case of Shohei Ohtani's interpreter.

To have fun and be safe while gambling, it is important to gamble properly. Never risk more than you can afford to lose; instead, plan ahead and play within your means. To keep your head on straight and not chase your losses, take frequent breaks. Get a feel for the odds and remember that gambling is more of a pastime than a means to an end. Never gamble when under the influence of alcohol or stress, and be sure to keep track of your spending and time. Seek assistance from support groups or think about self-exclusion measures if gambling becomes harmful or stops being enjoyable.
